    The answer is NO!

There are many different types of search engine optimization (SEO) and they have been around since long before Google was even created. Search engines use algorithms based upon keywords and relevance to rank websites and pages. Most people have heard about keyword rich content and anchor text links. These are both great ways at optimizing a site for various search queries. But there are three more factors that should not go unnoticed; Negative Reviews, Social Media Presence, and Backlinks.

    Negative Reviews

A lot of times when someone reviews a product online, these reviews aren’t always positive. Many times these reviews may be written maliciously or posted out of pure spite. This means that if you have a page full of negative reviews, they could hurt your website’s ranking, especially in some specific search terms. If you do notice that your website has a high volume of negative reviews, do yourself a favor and take them down. You don’t want to penalize yourself further by having a bunch of negative reviews sitting on your page.

    Social Media Presence

If you are not using social media sites, now would be the time to start. People expect to gain information regarding products and services right on their smartphone or tablet. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram — whatever platform you choose, just make sure your business is represented.

Another way to improve your rankings is to increase backlinks. Backlinks are basically hyperlinked words or phrases that point back toward your site. Each link counts as 1 point, so if you get 100 backlinks you’ve got 100 points towards your site’s ranking. So how does this work? Well, if you find a website that already has a ton of relevant content, then you can ask if they’d link to your website. There might be a fine line between asking for something unethical or illegal, so make sure to check the law regarding linking first. Once you get a few links, you’ll begin to build up enough points to jump higher up the ranks.

Nowadays, we live in a world where everyone relies on the internet. Businesses need to be able to reach customers efficiently and effectively. Online marketing is no longer optional today – it is a necessity.
